FLORAL MINIATURES – ART NOUVEAU
The heavy friezes and ornaments of the Empire style survived until the collapse of the European Central Powers, first of all the French Empire of Napoleon III and followed by the Ottoman and Russian Empires. Only the British one survived.
Art Nouveau was born in Paris in France and imperial art transformed into more graceful forms and with flowers took on more pleasant, bright and colorful tones.
The garlands abandoned the heavy foliage that represented the richness of imperial tastes, but with roses, tulips, irises and delicate vines it took on a more pleasant, more graceful, brighter appearance.
Even before that, it was the French impressionist painters, such as Toulouse Lutrec, Manet, Degas, Renoir, Monet, and others, who included floral images in their paintings.
Followed by many other artists such as sculptors and architects, especially in Europe, who dedicated themselves to embellishing their works with floral images.
Alphonse Mucha was one of the first and greatest artists of Art Nouveau.
For this reason, since the early 1900s, throughout Europe we have witnessed the birth of products with graceful shapes and colored like delicate flowers.
All our frames, boxes and other objects, decorated with hand-painted enamelled flowers, reflect this style which, still today, influences certain products.
For Gucci, in the 70s and 80s we produced various things exclusively and, among other things, the square box with translucent fired enamels on guilloche with hand-painted flowers taken from its famous scarf called “Flora”.

It is a new object that has never been used but is considered vintage because it was built more than 20 years ago.
The hallmarks struck to the underside of this fine box include:
manufacturer’s mark: 391FI
metal mark fineness:925
